Overview
Target accounts let you work a company as a buying committee rather than one lead at a time. You group the leads you already have at a company into an account, write down why the account should care, map who plays which role, and widen from your first contact to the rest of the committee in a sensible order. Summit53 paces touches so the account hears one voice at a time, and when the account is ready you convert the whole committee into a single CRM opportunity.
Open it from Leads โ Accounts (the URL is /outreach/leads/focus?view=accounts). Accounts are optional: leads without an account keep working exactly as before in the Focus, Pipeline, and All leads views.
Key concepts
- Committee roles โ Economic buyer, Champion, Evaluator ยท RevOps, User, Influencer, and Blocker. A contact without a role shows as Unassigned.
- Coverage โ how much of the committee you have reached, measured on four required roles: Economic buyer, Champion, Evaluator, and User. Each role is Engaged, Mapped, or Missing. Influencer and blocker are optional and not counted.
- Engagement model โ Multithreaded accounts are measured on committee coverage. Single-threaded accounts have one contact by design, so no committee gaps are reported.
- Threads โ each contact can be given a thread number. #1 ยท primary is the first person you work; later threads are who you widen to next. Summit53 recommends opening the primary thread first, then widening.
- Cooldown โ each account has a number of days between contacts. After someone at the account is touched, Summit53 recommends holding touches to other contacts until the cooldown ends. A contactโs own follow-ups are never held, and leads with a reply waiting are never held. You can always send anyway.
- Account stages โ Identified, Researching, Engaging, Meeting booked, and Opportunity, plus Nurture and Disqualified for accounts out of active play.
The account funnel
The top of the Accounts view answers three questions in three cards:
- Where are we stuck? โ accounts that have sat in their stage for more than 14 days, each with a suggested next move (such as opening a lead, writing a thesis, or widening). Moving a stalled account usually means a new thread, not another touch to the same person. When nothing is stuck it reads "Nothing has stalled".
- Who do we widen next? โ accounts that have an engaged champion and a gap in the committee, with the next contact to open and when they can be touched. Until a champion is engaged, the advice is to open the primary thread.
- Are we doing enough? โ a ring showing touches this week against your weekly target, the last four weeksโ average, a per-day chart, and which active accounts havenโt been touched this week. Click Weekly target ยท Edit, enter a number, and Save to change the target.
Beneath the cards, a stage strip counts accounts in each stage and flags stalled ones. Click Show stage lanes to see accounts as cards in five lanes from Identified to Opportunity; each card shows days in stage, coverage, and any roles to widen into. Click a card to open the account.
The account list
Under the heading Target accounts, the list has columns for Account, Stage, Tier, Model, Committee coverage, Threads, and Next touch, sorted by next allowed touch. Filter by stage (All, Active, Opportunity, Nurture) or by model (All models, Multithreaded, Single-threaded). An amber No thesis badge marks accounts that still need a thesis. Next touch reads Open now or shows the date the cooldown ends.
Creating target accounts
Group existing leads
- On the Accounts view, click Group existing leadsโฆ.
- Summit53 proposes companies where you already have several leads, grouped by email domain, website, then company name. Tick Include companies with one lead to see single-lead companies too.
- Tick the companies you want to work as accounts โ aim for 8โ12 active. Nothing is preselected. You can rename each one and choose Multithreaded or Single. Badges show whether a company Matches CRM account or is Already a target account, and title-based role hints are shown for each lead (you confirm roles on the account).
- Click Create [n] target accounts. The thesis starts empty; set roles on each account afterwards.
Create one account
- Click + New target account.
- Enter the Account name (required) and optionally the Website, Tier, Fit, Engagement model, and Account thesis.
- Click Create account. The new account opens so you can add its committee.
You can also create an account from a lead: in the lead drawerโs Target account section, use Or make [company] a target account.
The account page
Click an account to open it. The header shows the name, tier, fit, and model, the website and owner, the days between contacts, and whether the account is Open to touch or when the Next touch is recommended. Header buttons are Edit, + Add contact, Find stakeholders (multithreaded accounts), and Convert to opportunity. Use โน Accounts to return to the list.
- Edit โ change Name, Website, Stage, Engagement model, Tier, Fit, and Days between contacts (0โ90), then Save.
- Stage stepper โ click a step to move the account to that stage. A Nurture or Disqualified account is reactivated by picking a step.
Account thesis
The thesis is your problem hypothesis: what is breaking for this account, and why now? Click Write thesis (or Edit), write up to 4,000 characters, and click Save thesis. A thesis also unlocks web research for stakeholders.
Buying committee
The committee table lists each contact with their Role, Angle (what this person cares about), Thread, and Last touch. Rows can show who introduced the contact, and badges such as Held until [date], Queued behind [name], or Sent anyway. Click a row to open the lead and set their Role, Thread, Introduced by, and Angle.
On a multithreaded account, each required role nobody fills appears as "[Role] not mapped yet" with Find candidates and Add from leads. To add an existing lead, click + Add contact or Add from leads, search your unattached leads (the search defaults to the account name), pick a role, and click Add.
Coverage and Up next
The Coverage card shows the percentage and each required roleโs state. Up next names the contact Summit53 recommends working next, with their role, thread, who introduced them, and their angle, and says whether they are open now, queued behind the primary thread, or recommended from a later date. Click Open lead to draft to work them.
Signals
News, hiring, and funding signals help time the next touch. Click Research (later Refresh); results appear shortly as links with date and source. Research older than 14 days is flagged as worth refreshing.
Touch timeline
Once an account has contacts, the timeline shows the last 30 days of touches, replies, and send-anyway decisions for each contact, along with cooldown windows and the next recommended touch. Hover a marker for details, including the reason recorded for any send-anyway.
Finding stakeholders
On multithreaded accounts, Find stakeholders (or Find candidates on a missing role) opens the Suggested contacts panel. It first looks through your own records for unattached leads and CRM contacts at the company. To look further, click Research people, which uses one search from your research quota.
Web research needs the companyโs real website and an account thesis; if either is missing, or the website looks like a placeholder, the panel tells you what to add. Research runs in the background โ the button reads Researchingโฆ until results arrive.
Each suggestion shows the personโs name, title, and employer, its source (Existing record, Web research, or Researched in Claude ยท not verified by Summit53 for suggestions submitted through Summit53โs Claude integration), a suggested role, buying relevance and proposed angle โ all labelled as hypotheses โ and linked evidence. If the evidence matched only on company name, a note asks you to confirm it is the right company.
- Click Review and add on a suggestion.
- If Summit53 found matching leads, choose the match or Create a different person (and confirm you checked the matches).
- Check the name, job title, and optional email, phone, and LinkedIn profile.
- Choose a Committee role. Champion and Blocker are never pre-filled; choosing either requires you to confirm you have relationship evidence beyond the job title.
- Optionally add an Outreach angle and Thread order, then click Add to committee.
Adding a contact maps them to the account; it does not mark them engaged or contact them. Click Dismiss to remove a suggestion you donโt want.
Cooldowns and Send anyway
When a contact is held by the account cooldown, they appear in the Held by account cooldown tray on the Focus view and show Held until [date] on the account. To contact them now, click Send anyway (in the tray) or Send anywayโฆ (in the lead drawer), optionally pick a reason โ They asked to talk, Event follow-up, Time-sensitive news, or Otherโฆ โ and confirm. The decision is recorded on the account timeline.
Converting an account to an opportunity
- On the account, click Convert to opportunity (shown once the account has at least one contact and no opportunity yet).
- Check the CRM account line โ it either links to an existing CRM account or creates a prospect account.
- Edit the Opportunity name, and optionally add an Amount and Close date.
- Review Contacts and roles on the opportunity. Contacts without a committee role become contacts but are not added to the opportunity, so assign roles first.
- Click Convert.
Every lead is marked converted, the committee seeds the opportunityโs stakeholder map, and the account moves to Opportunity. Nobody is contacted. The account then shows a banner with Open opportunity โบ.
Troubleshooting
- "No target accounts yet" โ group existing leads by company, or create an account and add its committee.
- No coverage percentage โ single-threaded accounts donโt report committee gaps. Switch the model in Edit if the account widens.
- Research people is disabled โ the note beside the button explains why: add the real website or a thesis, or wait for your search quota to reset.
- "This lead belongs to another target account." โ a lead can be on only one account; open the lead and remove it from the other account first.
