Overview
If you sell in more than one currency, Summit53 needs two things to report revenue totals correctly: a single reporting currency that every total is shown in, and monthly exchange rates that convert other currencies into it. Both live on the Revenue Intelligence Settings hub, in the Reporting Currency and Exchange Rates cards.
Once they are set, ARR, segment, forecast and territory views convert amounts into your reporting currency and tell you which rates they used, and which amounts they had to leave out.
Getting there and who can edit
Open /revenue-intelligence/settings. The Reporting Currency card sits beside the Fiscal Calendar card, and the Exchange Rates card runs full width below them.
Everyone can view both cards. Only an organisation owner or administrator can change them; other users see the values read-only with the note “An organization owner or administrator can change the reporting currency” (or “…can add or change exchange rates”).
Reporting Currency
The card describes itself as “The ISO currency every revenue total is reported in.” It shows two things side by side:
- Configured — the currency code you have set, or “Not set”.
- Observed in ARR records — the currencies Summit53 has actually seen on your ARR opportunities and active contracts, with a line such as “Evidence: 54 ARR opportunities and 47 active contracts.”
What the status badge means
- Aligned — your reporting currency matches the single currency seen in your ARR records.
- Converted — your records use other currencies, and exchange rates exist to convert them into the reporting currency.
- Multiple currencies — several currencies were observed; add exchange rates so totals convert.
- Rates needed — some currencies have no rate for some months. Those amounts are left out of totals until you add rates.
- Action needed — the reporting currency is not set or doesn’t match what was observed, and no rates bridge the gap. ARR money totals stay hidden until this is resolved.
- Evidence incomplete — some ARR records have no valid currency code.
- No evidence yet — there are no positive-value ARR opportunities or active contracts to compare against yet.
Setting the reporting currency
- In ISO currency code, type a three-letter code (for example
NZD) or pick one from the suggestions. If Summit53 has a suggestion, you can select Use observed … instead. - Select Save reporting currency. Use Reset to discard your change.
- A confirmation such as “Reporting currency set to NZD” appears and the status badge updates.
Exchange rates are always stated against the reporting currency. If you change it, existing rates are ignored until you restate them against the new currency (see Rates entered against a previous currency).
Exchange Rates
Rates are monthly and read as “how many reporting-currency units one unit of each currency is worth”. The grid shows one row per month (newest first, the latest 12 months) and one column per currency, headed for example 1 USD = NZD. A dash means there is no rate for that month.
How rates are applied
- Closed deals and contracts use the rate for their own month, and that rate is locked.
- Open pipeline and forecasts use the latest month’s rate.
- A missing month falls back to the nearest earlier month.
- No earlier rate at all — the amount is left out of totals and flagged.
Months older than the latest 12 still apply to older deals; the card notes how many earlier months exist.
Adding a rate
- Under the grid, enter the Currency (for example
USD), choose the Month, and enter the Rate to your reporting currency. - Optionally add a Source note (for example “Month-average, treasury”).
- Select Add rate. The grid refreshes; currency, month and note stay filled so you can add the next one quickly.
Each currency can have one rate per month. If one already exists you’ll see “A USD rate for 2026-09 already exists; edit it instead”. You can’t add a rate for the reporting currency itself — it always converts at 1.
Editing or deleting a rate
- Select a rate in the grid. It becomes editable, with fields for the rate and the source note.
- Select Save to update it, Cancel to back out, or Delete to remove it.
- Deleting asks you to confirm. Amounts in that month then fall back to an earlier month’s rate, or are left out of totals if there isn’t one.
Pasting many rates at once
- Select Paste CSV.
- Paste one rate per line as
currency, month, rate. A header line is optional, blank lines are ignored, and months can beYYYY-MMorYYYY-MM-DD. - Optionally add a Source note for the whole batch.
- Select Import rates. You’ll see, for example, “Imported 24 rates (20 new, 4 replaced).”
currency,month,rate
USD,2026-01,1.6480
USD,2026-02,1.6620
AUD,2026-01,1.0870Every row is checked before anything is saved. If any row is invalid, nothing is saved and each problem is listed by row number (for example “Row 3: rate must be positive” or “duplicate USD 2026-01 (also row 2)”). Months that already have a rate are replaced. A single paste can hold up to 600 rows.
Rates entered against a previous currency
If you change the reporting currency, rates entered against the old one are ignored. The card shows a banner counting them, and those cells are tinted amber. Select each one and save it with a rate against the new currency, or delete it.
The FX footnote on reports
Wherever totals are converted — ARR, segment and forecast views on the Revenue Engine, and Territory Analytics — a short footnote explains what happened, for example:
- “FX converted to NZD, rates as of Oct 2026.” (with “nearest available monthly rate used where a month is missing” when a fallback month was used)
- “Excluded from totals, no exchange rate: …” listing how many records in each currency were left out and their value.
The footnote’s Add exchange rates link brings you back to the Settings hub so you can fill the gap.
Troubleshooting
- A total looks too low: check the footnote for “Excluded from totals”. Add the missing currency’s rate for that month (or any earlier month) and the amounts are included.
- The badge says Action needed: set the reporting currency to the one your ARR records use, or add exchange rates so the observed currencies convert.
- The badge says Rates needed: the message names the currencies missing a rate; add rates for them.
- Rates are tinted amber and ignored: they were entered against a previous reporting currency. Restate or delete them.
- A CSV paste saved nothing: at least one row was invalid. Fix the rows listed and paste again — the whole batch is all-or-nothing.
- You can’t edit either card: only an organisation owner or administrator can change currency settings.
- The Data Quality Monitor flags a currency issue: open opportunities in a currency with no rate are listed as a recommendation there too. Adding the rate clears it.
